Franklin County Jail Visitation

There are no in-person visits at the Franklin County jail except for attorney-client meetings. Attorney visits happen in a designated room. Discovery visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. All other visits are done by video through PayTel Communications Inc.

Each detainee gets 3 free 25-minute visits per week. Two of those must be done in the jail lobby on the video kiosk. One can be done remotely from home. If you want more visits beyond the three free ones, additional sessions can be purchased at a rate set by PayTel. This video system replaced the old in-person visiting setup and is the only way families can see detainees now.

Franklin County Jail Mail Policy

No mail is accepted directly at the Franklin County jail. All mail must be sent to a processing center. Mail gets scanned into the Inmate Communications System and delivered digitally to the detainee's tablet.

Legal mail is handled differently. It must be clearly marked "Legal Mail" on the outside. No books, magazines, or packages can be sent to the facility. Outgoing mail from inmates is placed unsealed in a collection box. Legal outgoing mail is opened in front of a pod officer to verify there is no contraband before it gets sealed. Franklin County Inmate Commissary

Commissary orders at the Franklin County jail are submitted on Tuesday mornings and distributed on Wednesday. Detainees can buy hygiene products like soap and shampoo, stationery, clothing items like socks and thermals, shower sandals, OTC medications, snacks, and condiments. Funds must be deposited before an order goes out.

There are three ways to add money to a detainee's account. First, use the kiosk in the lobby which accepts cash, debit, and credit cards. Search by the detainee's name or ID. Second, call Access Corrections at (866) 345-1884 with the detainee's ID number. Third, go online at accesscorrections.com. Phone calls from the jail are handled by Pay Tel. Calls are limited to 15 minutes. All calls are recorded and monitored. No call forwarding or three-way calling is allowed.

Bail and Release in Franklin County

Not all charges require bail. Some are handled as "book and release." Domestic assault and DWI charges may have no bail initially. Some charges require a court appearance before a judge sets bail. If bail is set, you can pay through Access Corrections online or by phone.
