Springfield Jail Records and the Law
Jail roster records in Springfield are public. The Missouri Sunshine Law under Chapter 610 RSMo makes arrest records available to anyone. Section 610.100 says the date, time, place, and charges of an arrest are open records. Booking photos are also public. The Greene County Sheriff posts this data online for exactly that reason. The law has been in effect since 1973 and covers every law enforcement agency in Missouri.
Some records have limits. Medical records of inmates are not public. Internal investigation files stay closed. Juvenile records are sealed. If no charges are filed within 30 days, the arrest record may close under Missouri law. But the basic jail roster data you see online, including names, charges, booking dates, and mugshots, is open for the public to view at any time.
