Kansas City Jail Roster Quick Facts
Kansas City Inmate Roster
Kansas City is Missouri's largest city. It spans parts of Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties. Most of the city sits in Jackson County. When someone gets arrested by KCPD, they go through booking at the Jackson County Detention Center. The jail is run by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. That office maintains the public jail roster for all current inmates. You can view the roster through the Jackson County Sheriff inmate roster page. The page lets you sort by newest or oldest bookings and filter between current and released inmates.
The Kansas City Police Department operates under a Board of Police Commissioners. This is different from most cities in Missouri where the mayor controls the police force. KCPD headquarters is at 1125 Locust, Kansas City, Missouri 64106. The non-emergency phone number is 816-234-5111. The main line is (816) 234-5000. The department makes arrests, but the county jail handles all detention after booking.

Jackson County Jail Roster Search
The Jackson County inmate roster is the main tool for finding Kansas City jail records. Each entry shows a booking number, booking date and time, the inmate's name, current charges, and bond amounts. Hold codes tell you which agency placed the hold. You might see holds from KCPD, Independence, or Lee's Summit. A bond of $0 usually means a hold from another agency is keeping the person in custody.

Kansas City Jail Roster Records Law
Jail roster records in Kansas City are public. Missouri's Sunshine Law in Chapter 610 RSMo requires that arrest records be open to the public. Section 610.100 covers arrest records specifically. It makes the date, time, location, and charges of an arrest available to anyone. Mugshots are part of the arrest record. The law has been on the books since 1973 and applies to every agency in the state.
Open records include all arrests in the last 30 days and any arrest that led to a conviction or probation. Closed records are different. Not guilty findings, dismissed charges, and arrests older than 30 days with no charges filed are closed. Only the subject of the record can access closed records. A notarized release is needed for anyone else to view them.
Note: If no charges are filed within 30 days of a Kansas City arrest, the record may close under Section 610.100.
KCPD Records and Background Checks
The Kansas City Police Department runs a Records Service Center. It handles police report requests, background checks, and express pick-up for online submissions. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. A city-only record check costs $4.50. A combined city and county check costs $9.00. Payment is by cash, money order, or business check. Personal checks and cards are not accepted.
You need a valid ID to request records. The department accepts a state-issued photo ID or valid passport. You can also use a Social Security card plus photo ID, or a birth certificate plus photo ID. These checks pull from local Kansas City arrest records, not the jail roster itself. The jail roster is free to view on the Jackson County Sheriff's site.
Kansas City spans four counties. Jackson County handles most of the city. But parts of Kansas City also stretch into Clay, Platte, and Cass counties. If an arrest happened in the Clay County portion of Kansas City, that inmate might show up on the Clay County jail roster instead of Jackson County. The same goes for Platte and Cass. Always check the county where the arrest took place. Most Kansas City arrests go through Jackson County, but it is worth checking if you do not find someone there.
Statewide Inmate Search Tools
If someone is no longer in the Jackson County jail, they may have gone to state prison. The MODOC offender search covers all state prison inmates, parolees, and probationers. You search by first and last name. It does not include discharged offenders or certain restricted records. For court case details tied to a Kansas City arrest, use Missouri Case.net. Case.net is free and shows filings, hearings, and case outcomes.
The VINE notification system lets you track inmates across Missouri. You can search by name or ID. VINE sends alerts by email, text, or phone call when an inmate's custody status changes. It works for county jails and state prisons. The service is free and runs around the clock. This is useful if you need to know when someone gets released from the Jackson County jail after a Kansas City arrest.
